Special Pension Providers
The pension provision of farmers, grant recipients and sailors is handled by special pension providers.
The Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution
The Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution handles the social security of farmers and grant recipients. It insures farmers, fishermen, reindeer herders and grant recipients.
At the end of 2016, the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution insured 65,100 people, including grant recipients. It paid out pensions to around 121,500 people. The operations of the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution are governed by the Farmers’ Pensions Act.
The Seafarer’s Pension Fund
The Seafarer’s Pensions Fund is a pension provider that handles the pensions of sailors employed by Finnish merchant vessels sailing in international waters and ice-breakers. In 2016, approximately 7,400 sailors and 8,400 pensioners were members of this pension provider.
The Seafarer’s Pensions Fund grants and pays out earnings-related pensions to sailors under the Seafarer’s Pensions Act .
