Based on the register data of the Finnish Centre for Pensions, we can estimate the pensions accrued by different age groups of employees covered by earnings-related pension insurance.

Employees accrue earnings-related pension based on their annual earnings from the age of 17, while self-employed persons accrue pension from the age of 18. Before 2005, pension accrual began at the age of 23. In addition to earnings from work, pension also accrues for certain periods during which social security benefits are paid. On average, older age groups have accrued higher pensions than younger age groups.

The figures below are register-based estimates of the average earnings-related pension accrued by people living in Finland who were insured for an earnings-related pension at the end of 2025. They exclude people receiving an earnings-related pension based on their own working life, such as an old-age pension, a partial old-age pension or a disability pension. The effect of the life expectancy coefficient has been taken into account.

For example, by the end of 2025, 40-year-olds had accrued an average earnings-related pension of €696 per month. The corresponding figure was €1,218 per month for 50-year-olds and €1,777 per month for 60-year-olds.

Men and women under 30 years of age had accrued approximately the same amount of earnings-related pension on average. In older age groups, men tend to have accrued more pension than women on average. At the end of 2025, the average earnings-related pension accrued by 40-year-old women was 86 per cent of that accrued by men of the same age. The corresponding proportion was 77 per cent among 50-year-olds and 79 per cent among 60-year-olds.

Individuals can check how much earnings-related pension they have accrued on their pension record.

Additional key figures on accrued earnings-related pensions are available in the Excel file at the bottom of the page. In addition to averages, the file includes medians and the upper and lower quartiles of the distributions.

Pension accrued during the year

Accrued pension amounts are adjusted annually using the wage coefficient. In addition, people insured for an earnings-related pension accrue new pension each year based on, for example, their earnings during the year.

The following graph shows how much new pension people who resided in Finland and were insured for an earnings-related pension accrued on average in 2025. The figures exclude people receiving an earnings-related pension based on their own working life, such as an old-age pension, a partial old-age pension or a disability pension. The effect of the life expectancy coefficient has been taken into account.

Estimated average earnings-related pension accrued during 2025 by insured persons living in Finland, by gender, €/month

Men accrued more pension than women on average during the year in all age groups except among 20-year-olds, an age at which men typically complete their military service. The difference between men and women in the amount of pension accrued during the year was greater among people over 30 than among younger people.

The year 2025 was the last year in which people aged 53 to 62 accrued earnings-related pension at a rate of 1.7 per cent instead of the standard rate of 1.5 per cent. On average, 54-year-olds, who were born in 1971, accrued the most pension in 2025. Their future monthly pension increased by an average of €63 during the year.
