An amendment of the earnings-related pension index results in an increase of around 52 euros for a gross monthly pension that is around 2,000 euros. Every year, pensions in payment are adjusted with the earnings-related pension index to help maintain purchasing power.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has confirmed the 2027 indexes for earnings-related pensions.

In 2027, the earnings-related pension index will be 3184, which means a 2.6 per cent increase in pensions in payment at the turn of the year. The wage coefficient in 2027 will be 1.773. Compared to 2026, the wage coefficient is 3.6 per cent higher next year.

For a person receiving a gross monthly earnings-related pension of 2,000 euros, this means an increase of around 52 euros per month.

€3,000€77€3,077

“The earnings-related pension index increases significantly more than last time, but at tthe same time, the increase is in line with the average for this decade. On average, the earnings-related pension index has been increased over the past decade by 2.66 percent per year”, says Economist Timopekka Hakola (Finnish Centre for Pensions)

The average monthly earnings-related pension in one’s own right in 2025 was 1,992 euros. The figure includes old-age pensions and disability pensions.

Earnings-related pensions are paid to nearly 1.6 million Finns.

Weight on prices in the earnings-related pension index and on wage in the wage coefficient

Every year, pensions in payment are adjusted with the earnings-related pension index to help maintain purchasing power. At the time of retirement, the wage coefficient adjusts career lifetime earnings to the level of the year in which the pension begins.

The index adjustments are affected by changes in consumer price and earnings level indexes calculated by Statistics Finland. The earnings-related pension index puts greater weight on price development while the wage coefficient emphasizes earnings development.

Which pension benefits increase thanks to the earnings-related pension index?

All earnings-related pensions in payment are adjusted with the earnings-related pension index:

  • the old-age pension and the partial old-age pension
  • the disability pension and the cash rehabilitation allowance,
  • the survivors’ pension (the surviving spouse’s pension and the orphan’s pension),
  • the years-of-service pension, and
  • the vocational rehabilitation allowance.

The index adjustment is made for the first time in the year following the year in which you retired. For example, if you retire at some point in 2026, your pension will be adjusted with the earnings-related pension index for the first time in January 2027.
