Retiring is a major change that will affect your finances and everyday life. The new Suomi.fi guide provides clear instructions for planning your retirement and applying for a pension. The Finnish Centre for Pensions has taken part in designing and creating the guide.
The Suomi.fi guide, “Retiring on an old-age pension”, offers clear and practical instructions for each stage of retirement. It advises you on what you should consider when planning your retirement and outlines the steps you should take and when to take them.
Practical instructions
In the Suomi.fi guide, you will find answers to questions such as the following:
- When can I retire and what options are available? The guide provides information on retirement ages and pension options, such as the partial early old-age pension.
- How do I apply for a pension? Your pension will not start automatically – the guide instructs you on how to apply for your pension, including if you are unemployed, an entrepreneur, live abroad or have accrued pension from abroad.
- How do I plan my finances and taxation? The pension amount and taxation may not match your expectations. The guide instructs you in the use of various calculators and explains how to order a new tax card as a pensioner.
- Can I continue working when I am retired? The guide explains how working or entrepreneurship during retirement affects your pension and taxation.
- What allowances and benefits are available to me? The guide provides information on housing allowance for pensioners, the pension card and other benefits for pensioners.
The guide has been produced in collaboration with key experts
The Digital and Population Data Services Agency has produced the guide in partnership with employment pension institutions, the Finnish Centre for Pensions, Kela, the Finnish Supervisory Agency (formerly AVI), the Tax Administration, various organisations, and other key experts.
During the planning of the guide, approximately 40 clients and 34 organisations were interviewed. The guide is designed to address the challenges identified in these interviews.
