Pension Assets of Authorised Pension Providers
The private-sector pension assets totalled EUR 117.9 billion at the end of 2016, equalling approximately one fourth of the current value of pension rights. Authorised pension providers manage approximately 93 per cent of the assets, while close to 6 per cent is managed by industry-wide and company pension funds and one per cent by the Seafarer’s Pension Fund and the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution.
The investment portfolios of the pension providers are considerably different in size. At the end of 2016, the investment portfolio of the largest authorised pension provider valued EUR 42 billion, while that of the smallest valued slightly less than EUR 3 billion. The two largest authorised pension providers controlled 72 per cent of the investments of all authorised pension providers. The investment portfolios of industry-wide pension funds and those of company pension funds totalled EUR 6.5 billion.
