Special Pension Providers
The pension provision of farmers, grant recipients and seafarers is handled by special pension providers.
The Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution
The Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution handles the social security of farmers and grant recipients. It insures farmers, fishermen, reindeer herders and grant recipients.
At the end of 2013, the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution handled the earnings-related pension insurance of approximately 73,200 people, including grant recipients. The number of pensioners handled by the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution totalled circa 133,800. The operations of the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution are governed by the Farmers’ Pensions Act.
The Seafarer’s Pension Fund
The Seafarer’s Pensions Fund is a pension provider that handles the pension provision of seafarers employed by Finnish merchant vessels sailing in international waters and ice-breakers. In 2013, approximately 8,000 seafarers and 8,500 pensioners were members of this pension provider.
The Seafarer’s Pensions Fund grants and pays out earnings-related pensions under the Seafarer’s Pensions Act to seafarers.
