Applying for a Pension

One application is enough

A person’s entire statutory pension can be granted by filling in only one application. Both earnings-related and national pension can be applied for using the same application form.

After a pension application is submitted, the application for earnings-related pension is processed by the claimant’s pension provider and the application for national pension by the Social Insurance Institution of Finland.

It is very common for a person who has worked for more than one employer during his/her career to have been insured with more than one pension provider. In such cases, the last pension provider they have been insured with will pay their entire earnings-related pension.

The claimant can submit a pension application to any pension provider, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland or the Finnish Centre for Pensions. The application will then be forwarded to the competent pension provider(s). The pension providers will pay the pensions directly into the pensioners’ bank account.

Applying for a pension when the claimant has been insured both in Finland and in another country

When a pension claimant has been insured in another country in addition to Finland, the application procedure varies according to where s/he lives when making the pension application.

Finnish earnings-related pension is paid without limitations to recipients living in other countries. The residence-based national pension can only be paid to recipients in EU/EEA countries and in some of the countries Finland has made a social security agreement with.
