Working abroad, what about the pension?
The social security Regulation of the EU and bilateral social security
agreements that Finland has with other countries determine whether a pension
accrues from work abroad, and according to
which country's pension scheme it accrues. Thus a person who is
going to work abroad should read the information in this section.
If you go abroad as a posted worker or as self-employed, you will, for
certain countries, need a certificate stating that you remain covered by
the Finnish social security system (for instance A1). Instructions and forms are
available here .
When you apply for a pension from work abroad, the Finnish Centre for
Pensions forwards the application abroad and the decision from abroad to
Finland. This section gives advice on applying for a pension. Information
is also provided for returning migrants who think about spending
their retirement in Finland.
The Finnish Centre for Pensions represents the Finnish statutory
earnings-related pension scheme in the negotiations on social security
agreements with other countries. This section provides up-to-date information on
the agreements, and the agreement texts are also found here .
